Sunlight, a Boy and His Train

Playing with a toy train in the sunlight streaming through the open front door on Christmas day. It was a warm day and a perfect opportunity for a photograph. Un-retouched original. Photographers face a challenge to get the right exposure in high contrast environments. High lights and low lights.

Snowy View and Green Palms

Orange County Photographers kind of view- a snowy view and green palms surround this Orange County real estate.

Spring Arrives In January | Orange County Photographers Love This!

Here in Southern California, Orange County photography is a year-round outdoor venue. I noticed yesterday that spring has arrived. Trees suddenly appeared decked in new white blossoms. Last night’s rain ensured a fresh coating of snow on the San Gabriel Mountains so I stopped this morning to take a shot of the view. This is that time of year that Orange County photographers take all those college campus shots with the snow covered mountains behind green lawns.

Where Else Can You See So Much Contrast In One Day? | Orange County Photography

Where else can you see snow and palm trees in our country except perhaps in Hawaii? To top it off, the half moon was still straight overhead on this fine morning with fresh snowfall on the San Gabriel Mountains.

Orange County is one of the few areas in the US where you can surf and snow ski on the same day. OC Photographers love it!

Anaheim Ducks

No, not the hockey team, the real ones. This team is resting or flat out asleep. A few stand guard while the others keep napping in the morning sun.

The Main Effect – Wasn’t Photoshop

This picture was not photoshopped- until today. I put the original first in order below. The basic effect was achieved by a lucky combination of a 1/8 second exposure at f22, slight directional movement of the camera and a breeze. The photoshop applied level adjustments, high pass filter, a little dodging on the tree trunks and one version included some glowing edges effect at a low opacity.

The Final Touches | Orange County Potography

The final touches before the wedding. I have to admit this was just random experimenting with layers, level adjustments, color adjustments, high pass filters, surface blur and even a little glow effect on one layer.

Youngest Red Hat Society Member Right Here in Orange County?

Kendall borrowed her mommy’s red hat for a while. I had to take a few photos.

Hummingbirds | Orange County Photography

Hummingbird visits have increased in the last few weeks as the migratory species treks from parts up north to Mexico. By the time they get to my house, they’ve nearly completed their journey. Orange County is known for many migratory stopovers including the swallows and those amazing and noisy green parrots.

Gregory’s Day In The Sand

Gregory, my grandson, came over last weekend and had his very first playtime in the sand. It didn’t take him long to figure out the fun of it all. After he thoroughly doused himself, his mom took him home for a quick refreshing bath. Tiredness finally took completely over and he headed home.
