I Thought I’d publish this quick analysis for a local real estate agent to show how some of the factors in SEO affect a website’s position in the Google SERPs.

I’ll preface this by saying that the term we’re discussing is an extremely high competition one. See the Google Adwords result below. You’ll discover that the term is searched for nearly nine times more than for “Orange County Homes for sale” the competition bar on the graph shows it too. There’s a real “war of keywords” in the Temecula, Murrieta and Inland Empire in general and understandably so, the ones who show up first win the game. There are only a few non-clearinghouse websites on page one, so a concerted, focused effort is necessary to get there.

The website you mentioned, www.scottpartridge.com was on page two for “Temecula Homes for sale.”

Your website is currently on page 15 of the same search term results. I’ll explain why. There are several primary factors that affect where Google places your website in a search.

  1. Content to Keyword Ratio A “keyword” is identified by Google as a consistent natural match from a title to the end of the web page it reads. The most important of these is the
  2. Overall Site Content Your website consists only two pages of real content. This is because the “MLS search” pages have content framed in, but from another website. Google sees only the HTML container that holds that content but the content is invisible. You need to develop textual content for each community and have it placed on each page. Those pages, in turn will show Google that you have good content and your site will trend higher in search results fast. You’ll note that Scott’s website has a wide spread of content on the front page, much like yours, but each community is a link to a page that has full content. I would still prefer that you focus your front page more on one community and allow traffic to pick up for your site before attempting to “spread the wealth” of your content so thin, but creating great content for each page is your ultimate answer.
  3. Back-links with relevant anchor text. You have a good number (331) of do-follow back-links. Your anchor text on 65% of your links is simply your domain name, or worse, nothing at all. While that’s not a desired finding, the anchor text on a good portion of the other back-links contain great variations of your relevant keywords. One weakness is that your good back-links come from only around five domains. You would do well to undertake strategies to acquire do-follow back-links from new quality sources.
