Here in Southern California, Orange County photography is a year-round outdoor venue. I noticed yesterday that spring has arrived. Trees suddenly appeared decked in new white blossoms. Last night’s rain ensured a fresh coating of snow on the San Gabriel Mountains so I stopped this morning to take a shot of the view. This is that time of year that Orange County photographers take all those college campus shots with the snow covered mountains behind green lawns.

I took some family photos on the beach for a very fun group in 2007. They were on their last full day in Maui and wanted some pictures together as a family. Their youngest daughter was a natural for the camera. I caught this pose which was very brief. The photo is far from technically perfect, with a little motion blur due to the low light conditions, but it’s still one of my favorites.

William in one of his moods. He’s older now but the moods are the same. Sometimes happy and social, sometimes melancholy. William has always had a keen awareness of those around him.

The final touches before the wedding. I have to admit this was just random experimenting with layers, level adjustments, color adjustments, high pass filters, surface blur and even a little glow effect on one layer.

This is especially for my sister, Millie who is stuck in Kalispell, MT. The only green there is the conifers and that’s just plain monotone green on white or gray. Orange County enjoys appreciable green all year long and we sometimes forget that most of the country is good and tired of gray and white by the first week of January. I’ll try to include frequent photography from here in Orange County for them here.

I had no idea what awaited me when I casually took my camera along for a hike up a hill near my home. My intention was to take a shot or two if I saw anything interesting. While Orange County is known for beautiful sunsets on the coast, my home inland in the Murrieta area usually has the same sunset repeated most days of summer but this late July day had a surprise waiting for anyone who was there to catch it.

Hummingbird visits have increased in the last few weeks as the migratory species treks from parts up north to Mexico. By the time they get to my house, they’ve nearly completed their journey. Orange County is known for many migratory stopovers including the swallows and those amazing and noisy green parrots.

Gregory, my grandson, came over last weekend and had his very first playtime in the sand. It didn’t take him long to figure out the fun of it all. After he thoroughly doused himself, his mom took him home for a quick refreshing bath. Tiredness finally took completely over and he headed home.

Our friends from Berlin, Germany visit Orange County every year. This year we took them to Old Town Temecula for a “taste of the old west” plus some 100 degree temps.
