The SEO and ranking algorithms of Google change every day and Google has also implemented machine learning. Machine learning is the essence of the Panda update. The algorithm is really transformative and each time it runs it brings a new layer of intelligence with it. This means that if a site is running or supported by content farms or other non-human factors and Panda doesn’t filter it on one run, it will be back with more intelligence later and eventually recognize gaming of the system and violations of TOS and guidelines. Panda is designed to promote human content and interaction and penalize automated, scripted and spun content.

Agility is best achieved by being a human writer with a human perspective. I support the Panda algorithm because it means that SEO experts who have been ranking on spun and machine generated content will give way to those who actually hand-produce content and links.

I photographed this building while I had access to  a  10–22 wide angle lens to photograph a condominium.

I created this piece last summer for Capital Pacific Real Estate. The marketing was successful and the developer is now building more new homes in the community.

Orange County Real Estate Photography

This is a prep video for a home tour. I have some corrections and more titles/banners to add. I shot it with the Canon T2i and a Tamron 28-105 2.8 lens. You need fairly fast glass to deal with indoor lighting of homes during the day when the windows are so bright. You won’t get too far with point and shoot video because the windows will set the average lighting so high that the indoors will look like a cave. With the SLR format, you can push the exposure and still get some of the outdoor detail or just set it manually for indoor lighting and let the windows look like a nuclear flash is going off outside. I try to shoot my indoor work early or late so the outdoor light isn’t quite as harsh. You don’t always have that luxury with real estate photography or video.

In any Orange County home photography, details help to tell the story, sometimes better than the big picture. Remember to include small details that accent the character and desirability of homes in your real estate photography. Use photoshop to balance light levels and correct colors. Often indoor photography requires higher ISO film- you’ll need to adjust color.

For Orange County real estate photography: In small spaces, especially in bathrooms or other rooms with larger mirrors, you always need to pay attention to a number of factors.

  • Reflections. Ensure that mirrors don’t catch an unwanted picture of the photographer or the flash, at least not directly, a halo like the one on the side of this photo might provide a desirable effect. This shot has lots of mirrors, any of which may reflect something unwanted. Awareness of what you’re photographing is key.
  • Lighting. The lighting in such a small space, especially with flash added can be very dynamic. You may need to take several shots to get the right balance. Some cases may need bracketing and/or post-processing in Photoshop.
  • Composition. Don’t forget, after getting your lighting and reflected parts of the picture to compose well. Use the rule of thirds or the golden proportion in your composition for the best appearance.
  • Focus. What is the desired focal point? Sometimes the best focus might be placed on what’s in the mirror instead of directly on the objects in front of the mirror- a subtle difference. Keep your aperture setting appropriate for the depth of field you want. A few shots at different aperture settings might be a good idea.
