Sometimes Location Is Everything | Temecula Photography

Like real estate that has everything wrong – Venice is damp, often flooded, in need of unending repairs and sinking slowly into the muddy foundation of the sea floor, yet it’s still one of the most popular places in the world to visit or even live if you’re so lucky. For a thousand years this city has been maintained on a just in time basis. Replacement parts are often mis-matched in color and texture, like the multiple columns on San Marcos Church or the red roof tiles on all the buildings of innumerable shades but the effect is unmatched and endearing.

“Them Jews” and the Arch of Titus Vespasian

June 13th, 2009 davekeys No comments

I took these photos in April, 2001, seeing the Arch of Titus for the first time was a sobering experience. I knew well the history of Titus Vespasian destroying the Temple in 70AD. During the Campaign, Titus was promoted from General to Prince as the son of his father the new emperor thus completely fulfilling the prophecy of Daniel that it would be a Prince that destroyed the temple right down to the day on the Jewish calendar by which Danial predicted its destruction. Jesus too, predicted a destruction so complete that not one stone would be left upon another. This too happened as Titus removed every stone to extract the gold that had melted in the fire set to kill the Jews holding out in the temple.

I Stopped The Pledge Of Allegiance

I Stopped The Pledge Of Allegiance

Yes, in my wife’s classroom, right in the middle of the pledge, I halted the morning ritual, commanding STOP! STOP!

Why?

Several students were busy doing something else other than the pledge. One student in particular was standing sideways facing away from the flag. That was too much. I spent a decade of my life in the military and I still stop and salute (civilian style now) and say the pledge whenever I’m in her classroom. This group has been particularly obstinate for Mrs. Keys but this morning was just too much. I used a voice strong and loud enough that everyone stopped reciting and I informed the class that I spent 10 years of my life defending that flag and we were going to say the pledge correctly and with respect.

They did.

When Is It Art? And When Is It Fine Art?

When Is It Art? And When Is It Fine Art?

I had a discussion recently via family email (we have a large list) about “fine art” One father wanted their son to be focused on more “male oriented” topics than the arts. I contributed some opinion about the impact of fine art on society and learning.

Recently, perusing some photographs from 2001 (taken with an Olympus 1.3 MP camera!) I realized that I had samples of a wide divergence in art forms taken in one city, Berlin, that impacted society in very different ways at times centuries apart.

The first picture, taken at the berlin wall was part of the social eruption in Berlin in the late 1980s that led to the collapse of the iron curtain and the entire Soviet Union.

The second shows art from the period from around 1100 to 1600 in a church in Berlin. Though you can’t see it, there is an attendance roster posted on a wall with numbers in the 80s and 90s. The art has little impact today, but such art was instrumental in forming the societies of renaissance Europe.

The Cake Is the First To Leave – Temecula Wedding Photography

The cake disappears fast once the party gets to the reception doesn’t it? Since it’s one of the few things you can see later after your wedding. It’s imperative to get a few good shots of it.
This cake was photoshopped to take out the yellow tone of a nearby mercury light and accent the fall leaf decorations.
