Suddenly, everyone ends up going into the front door of a church, except Jack, who has for some inexplicable reason, to go in through the rear entrance just so he can look again into a coffin. Jack, ever the doubting Thomas, is ripped out of his universe with the words of John Locke echoing in his ears, “You don’t have a son!”

The universe that left “Parallel Jack” with mysterious neck abrasions and cuts moves in and moves Jack out.

Nice. I guess in a way Jack was right. It didn’t work. (detonating the Atom Bomb) it just created a collapsible alternate universe that faded like a desert mirage when subjected to reality.

More confusing, is the status of all the other characters in the church, and the one outside- Ben who must have needed a little more time in purgatory. After all, he had the murders of everyone in the Dharma Initiative including his own father on his hands.

Jack’s father’s statement that some go before you and some after does nothing to clear the air on what became of original Sawyer, Claire, etc. who flew away on the greatest improbability of all, the resurrected jet.

What about Hugo? Someone has to feed the dog, right? Is Hugo alive on the island?

This is just a guess at what the producers may have been aiming for.

We’ll find out tonight…

I think the parallel universes will be resolved by either joining or by one ceasing to exist. My guess is that somehow the “smoke monster” will be contained on the island by it being submerged as shown at the beginning of the season. He will be trapped by the magnetism of the island but “forever” unable to get to its source.

Last week’s Season 6 number 6 (hmmm… is there a 666 in there somewhere?) Lost episode hints that it could try to sweep some lost theories debris under the carpet of love. The authors can push this a little but I’m guessing that’s not going to “answer all the questions” in a way that makes fans happy, if by happy you mean not enraged at the audacity of having no exit strategy, making Lost the biggest non sequitur in TV history. No, I think they won’t go to far with that device other than swinging favor toward what will likely be a dissolution of parallel universe #2 since the characters of that universe seem to know, according to my current Lost Theory, that this isn’t really the life they are meant to live. Faraday instinctively knows he’s already done something to blow up a nuclear bomb. Charlie couldn’t be less interested in pursuing his musical career- he’d just as soon die on a plane or in a car plummeting to the bottom of the water. Desmond is now looking for another more meaningful life and Eloise seems to know just as much about the whole business as she does in universe #1.

I’d say, if my Lost theory holds up, that it’s nearly curtains for universe #2.

Now we just have to contain the smoke monster forever.

Are You Lost Yet? Lost Theory and The Writers’ Parallel Universe

Just another comment about the final season of Lost. It seems like the writers may want to blend the parallel universes into one. Despite being “dead”, Jacob seems to be intent on stopping Locke/Smoke Monster/Esau? whoever he is, from getting off the island. Whitmore seems to know exactly who’s there too and he wants the Island for himself. There is a thin line of connection between the parallel universes as is evidenced by Jack’s discovery of an abrasion on his neck while on the plane that never crashed. I’d presumed that the writers want to make use of that fact sooner or later.

The island is largely black rock – a naturally occurring magnetic mineral. It has the uncanny property of storing electromagnetic currents – like a big magnetic tape.

I read an excellent theory on Lost stating that much of the activity on Lost’s island is spawned from individuals trying to avert fate. This struggle succeeds only in creating anomalies that complicate their efforts.

With newly fractured parallel realities derived from atomic energy of a fission explosion combined with the freakishly strong magnetism of the island and lots of imagination and creativity, there should be plenty of room for Lost theories. I’m of a mind to start hunting for spoilers on the final episode.

Using the old standby of parallel universes, Lost writers give themselves twice the opportunity to solve the problems of Lost. Lost writers can satisfy twice the viewers. The Lost writers can give twice as many Lost theorists the opportunity to claim, “I was right!”

If they really feel inclined, the writers can add even more parallel universes, six or seven more, according to some quantum physics models.

The winners? If the writers and producers of Lost don’t overplay their quantum logic, everyone gets a chance at satisfaction with their personal lens and their own view of the meaning of the story of Lost.

If the show does a shoddy job ending what has been an adeptly spun yarn, which hasn’t happened yet in my opinion, then everyone may end up feeling- lost in translation, in the final episode.

Aside from the main characters like Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Sayid, Hurley and John Locke there are a host of sub-characters who are presumably alive in the un-Desmond-affected universe who are still living- or does fate step in and deal the final blow?
