I Stopped The Pledge Of Allegiance
I Stopped The Pledge Of Allegiance
Yes, in my wife’s classroom, right in the middle of the pledge, I halted the morning ritual, commanding STOP! STOP!
Why?
Several students were busy doing something else other than the pledge. One student in particular was standing sideways facing away from the flag. That was too much. I spent a decade of my life in the military and I still stop and salute (civilian style now) and say the pledge whenever I’m in her classroom. This group has been particularly obstinate for Mrs. Keys but this morning was just too much. I used a voice strong and loud enough that everyone stopped reciting and I informed the class that I spent 10 years of my life defending that flag and we were going to say the pledge correctly and with respect.
They did.
