What’s the Difference between Died and Killed? Ask the MIami Herald
Is it any wonder that newspapers are losing readership in the US? Today, the Miami Herald posted a story about a victim of Legionnaire’s disease who died of the bacteria caused pneumonia after contracting it at a Miami luxury hotel last fall. The story reported that one died and two had become ill from the disease. In the next paragraph the Herald story referred to the “one patient killed.” Killed? By whom? I guess you could say he was “killed” by the disease but that would mean people are being killed in hospitals every day, right?
The Herald gets a “D” for writing on a fourth grade level. Oh! I’m sorry. I have to apologize to the fourth graders.
